Want to Read more about Child development??

Nannypalooza supports continuing education in any form. While we would love to have you join us at a conference or iNNTD event, we know that some people prefer to study in different ways.

This book club is in honor of one of our earliest community members, Janice St. Clair. She is a nanny who loves to read and study. We have some of her favorites listed below as well as other great professional development books. Choose one and we will send it to you! Then pass it along locally if you choose!!

How it works

1. Choose a title from list below. Choose one of Janice's favorites or from other highly popular books on child development, discipline, sleep or other topics. Or feel free to request the title of your choice. We reserve the right to refuse a title and ask that you choose another based on developmentally appropriate practices.
2. Click the button to send Nannypalooza your request- include book title, your name and address.
3. You'll get the book in about a week to 10 days.
4. Read and enjoy. And when you are done, check around your local nanny community to see if you can pass along the book. Or keep it for your library.

Our end of the deal

We promise to send out at least 15 books this year in honor of our 15 years! We will accommodate more requests as funds allow. We ask that you only request one book each year.
We will take requests and draw them randomly each month- sending out 3 books each month. So starting in December, we will choose three requests at random from those requested to receive a book. Once your name has been picked it will be removed from the club until the following year.
This program may be modified based on number of requests and funds available.

The Books

Janice's List and recommendations

“How to Talk So Kids Will Listen, and Listen So Kids Will Talk”, by Faber and Mazlish
www.amazon.com/How-Talk-Kids-Will-Listen/dp/0380811960
It is the first one I recommend to nannies of any level.

And “Siblings Without Rivalry”, if there are siblings.  Both are easy to read and use, chock full of practical info.

The series by Gesell Institute, mostly by Ames and Ilg: “Your One Year Old,” “Your Two Year Old,” etc.  Read or re-read for the current age of your kiddo, and for the age about to be.  Also accessible and helpful to pretty much any level of experience or reading level.

Those are the ones I think every nanny of every level should read, and  have as reference books.

Then:
“The Magic Years,” by Selma Freiberg is how children perceive the world as they grow.

I love “The Whole Brain Child”  and “No Drama Discipline” by Dan Siegel.

My favorite approach is Conscious Discipline, so I recommend “Easy to Love, Difficult to Discipline” by Dr. Becky Bailey.  But most often I recommend learning the principles by watching the free webinars at https://consciousdiscipline.com/e-learning/becoming-the-best-you-can-be/

Positive Discipline books by Jane Nelsen geared toward the age of the child:
I highly recommend both
“Positive Discipline The First Three Years” and
“Positive Discipline for Preschoolers”

Maria Montessori's Handbook

Mind in the Making by Ellen Galinsky
