Transitions :An RIE Approach Part I
Transitions during care, and during a child’s day are often overlooked, but are key moments when the adult must be fully present. Infant care can always be mapped out as diapering, feeding and sleeping. Those topics have been discussed and many opinions have been offered on best practices. We have opened and expanded our thoughts and training on the times in between these caregiving activities, especially immediately before and after body care. How can the adult accomplish more seamless transitions and facilitate the child's understanding and participation? We can better prepare ourselves, and the child, for what is coming next. We will introduce and illuminate some of our most recent work in regard to transitions and practical methods in supporting trust and security within the infant and young child.
This workshop demonstrates and shares how we have approached our attempts to ease the stress of children in transition. From parent to caregiver, from independent play to caregiving activity and into sleeping.
Eileen O’Sullivan began her RIE journey in 1989 when she started a Co-Op nursery school for a small group of children. The children had all been in RIE class and wanted to continue being together. She has taken two more such groups of IE children through to Kindergarten. She trained with Magda Gerber at the original RIE center, Santa Monica and in Culver City for over 25 years. She is continuing her training with the Pikler Institute as a Pedagogue Candidate in Budapest, Hungary where RIE has its origins. She has over thirty years of experience applying the RID/Pikler philosophy with children in groups.
Nicole Vigliotti began her early childhood career in search of more meaningful work as an infant caregiver at Little Learners Lodge (LLL). After studying with Magda Gerber in 1998, Nicole received her Montessori 3-6 credentials in order to remain with her primary group of infants through Kindergarten. She continued her studies under the guidance of Anna Tardos and the team of experts at the Pikler Institute in Budapest. During her 25 years as Head of School at LLL, Nicole also served on both the RUE and Pikler USA Governing Boards, piloted the first East Coast RIE certified center, produced Beverly Kovach’s BEING WITH INFANTS video training series and chartered a public Montessori elementary school.

Affirming Acceptance: Best practices for supporting your LGBTQI+ youth and
family
In this workshop, we look at how we can best support the LGBTQI+ members of our families. We will identify hurdles that LGBTQI+ youth might face in their schools and broader communities. We will also get familiar with some of the evolving terminology you might encounter. Mainly, though, we will focus on four key areas: 1)how to signal you are a safe resource and ally for our LGBTQI+ youth and families, 2) best practices for supporting kids who are coming out, 3) What LGBTQI+ youth and families may share regarding their authentic self, and 4) Resources to help you, your youth, and your families.

COOPERATION: The Result of the 3 C’s
- If you often get frustrated with your child because they won’t listen... then this course is for you.
- If transitioning from one activity to another creates a battle every time... then this course is for you.
- If you just wish they would listen the first time... then this course is for you.
- If you feel like if you don’t yell, they don’t listen... then this course is for you.
- If you punish and punish and nothing seems to work... then this course is for you.
Encouraging children to cooperate and listen is not about threatening them or punishing them, it’s about building trust, respect and the encouragement that motivates them to contribute, listen and cooperate. But how does that happen? 3 C’s, that’s how.
In this course, you will learn the 3-fold method that works with kids of all ages and eliminates the cycle of punishment, frustration, overwhelm and the need to yell.

Workshop: Work From Rest
Nannies choose the call to invest in the lives of children, finding purpose in molding little minds and enriching sweet hearts. But, often this can come at a cost. Career nannies are generous givers who can find themselves overworked and exhausted, with their whole health last on the list.
Imagine showing up to work fueled and filled...and not just with coffee. A nanny on mission, confident, at peace, where your body, mind and soul feel balanced and ready for the day. It starts from a place of rest, and we’re not just talking bubble baths and massages.
In this workshop, Greta will share practical ways to prioritize care for the most important person in your world, you! She’ll talk about rhythms and routines, reducing hurry, living simply, incorporating boundaries and honoring your dreams. Including, a million-dollar morning routine, the art of solo-tasking and even a life-changing hack to improve your romantic relationships. The hopeful goal is for you to never pour from an empty cup again.
Greta Schraer has devoted the last two decades of her life to the childcare industry as a professional nanny, youth minister, nanny community director and nanny placement agency owner. CincyNanny began in 2009, first as a community of professional career nannies when she began gathering Cincinnati nannies for training, playdates, social events and professional peer support. In 2016, Greta expanded CincyNanny to offer nanny placement, connecting families and career nannies for employment. Greta has a heart to mentor families through the hiring process, advocating for legal pay and excellent screening. She seeks to coach candidates and mentor nanny leaders with her expertise and unique voice in the industry. Greta served a cumulative 9 years on the International Nanny Association Board, was awarded the INA Nanny of the Year Award in 2010 and the APNA Rising Star Award in 2021. Leading with integrity, locally and nationally, Greta has a heart to elevate the nanny industry overall, while empowering women in the workforce.
